Tub Liner Removal

Tub Liner Removal

Why we recommend you choose refinishing over tub liners:

Disadvantages of liners:

  • Extension of drain and overflow pipelines to accommodate the thickness of the liner
  • Accumulation of water between the tub and liner, causing a squishy feeling, odor problems, and buildup of mildew and dangerous mold.
  • Cracking of liners over time
  • Limited color options
  • Reduction in space inside the tub and within the bathroom

The Bottom Line

Although a bathtub liner may be a less expensive choice over replacement, bathtub liners are still at least 4x more expensive than bathtub refinishing. A basic bathtub liner can start at approximately $1,100, but after you factor in accessories like a wall system, safety bars, shampoo holders, soap dishes, etc, you can easily end up spending in excess of $3,500. Luxury models can run up to $5,000.

Installation time frame

Since Bathtub liners are designed to fit over your existing bathtub and not one tub is exactly the same, a service man will need to come out and take measurements. However, this will not be done until a contract is signed. If the measurements aren’t precise, or a mistake is made at the off-site factory, this will increase the chance of a inconsistency between the actual measurement of your tub and the liner that is manufactured. Once the liner is shipped to the installer, you will then be contacted to set up an appointment for installation. The actual process from start to finish can take anywhere from 3-6 weeks from your initial appointment.

With Chicago Tub Refinishing HQ, our highly trained, skilled technicians come to your home, set up, apply, clean up, and are out within a matter of hours. We’re so clean, it’s like we were never there

Mold, Water Accumulation & Other problems

There is no way for a tub liner to perfectly fit your existing bathtub. However, improper installation and/or poor measurements will increase the issue of water building up between the tub itself and the liner. Bathtub Liners will crack over time from every day use, poor fit and/or improper installation. Tub liners are intended to fit over your current bathtub and surround. There are considerable problems that will occur as a result of water accumulating in the space between the existing tub and the installed liner. It is almost impossible to get rid of the water buildup without replacing or removing the liner itself. Over time, the accumulated water becomes stagnant and will produce embarrassing odors and unhealthy mold and mildew.   Because liners are made from a single sheet of plastic, the corners and edges are thin and prone to cracking. Poor installation or insufficient adhesive can also lead to leaks around the drain area. Chicago Tub Refinishing HQ refinishing eliminates these issues because our refinishing process creates a permanent bond between the new finish and the tub itself so water and moisture cannot accumulate, eliminating any of the issues associated with tub liners.

This tub liner failed in less than 1 year from installation.

The black tar-looking stuff is the adhesive used to “glue” the liner on.

Unlike refinishing, bathtub liners have limited color options. Bathtub liners only have 1 or 2 color options and are made of a single sheet of plastic. Therefore, they do not have a nice glossy sheen like that of a new acrylic bathtub or a refinished tub. With Chicago Tub Refinishing HQ , we can refinish numerous bathroom fixtures in a variety of colors with a beautiful glossy like-new sheen. You’ll be able to custom coordinate to match or choose an entirely new color scheme to create the desired look and feel you’ve always wanted.
